Ego Trippin' finally seems to follow Snoop's own artistic direction and is therefore innevitably his most musical and most personal album to date.
Gone are collaborations with every platinum rap artist out there, gone are production credits that read like a who's who, gone even is planned work with Bono, Madonna and Mick Jagger - a measure of his solo intentions.
Instead we're treated to Snoop's own passion for music, inspired by the 80's and 90's swing of Teddy Riley through to the 70's and 80's soul of the Gap Band and Charlie Wilson, littered with classic music in between.

The rap veteran has gone back to basics to produce a mature CD which can restore rap's musical credibility.
