Glam Rock Music and Artists (UK and US)

History of 1970s Glam Rock

The colourful rock music sub genre Glam rock was short-lived, reigning between 1971-1975 before Punk started emerging, it was predominantly a British phenomenon, but it influenced artists around the world.
Glam rock was characterised by flamboyant clothing, make-up and asexual emotion.
On a music side glam rock is divided in styles, the most common is the artists such as T. Rex, The Sweet and Slade, they was drawing influences from classic rock and roll, pop and hard rock, resulting in catchy hooks and simple melodies.
The other half were artists like David Bowie, The Sparks and Roxy Music who were influenced by prog and art rock which resulted in more ambitious and dramatic style.
Other Glam artists outside of the UK were New York Dolls, Alice Cooper and Lou reed, these types of artist were visually Glam, whilst their music varied.
