Blu-ray was successor of the DVD due to it having a greater information capacity which allowed movies to be watched in full HD. But there is a greater benefit that even now many music lovers are missing out on and that is they use High Fidelity Pure Audio meaning that they can reproduce audio at the same quality as the original master tapes.
In comparison a recording on CD is usually 16bit sampling at a rate of 44.1 Khz where as on Blueray the High Fidelity Pure Audio uses 24bit sampling at a rate of 96kHz or 192kHz, some other variations are also available such as DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby True HD, multi-channel surround sound configurations, such as 5.1 or 7.1 channels and Dolby Atmos.
