John Lennon (1940–1980) was an English singer, songwriter, and peace activist, best known as a founding member of The Beatles. Alongside Paul McCartney, he formed one of the most successful songwriting partnerships in music history, creating classics like Imagine, Strawberry Fields Forever, and Come Together.

After The Beatles disbanded in 1970, Lennon pursued a solo career, releasing influential albums such as Imagine (1971) and Plastic Ono Band (1970). He was also an outspoken advocate for peace and social change, often alongside his wife, Yoko Ono.

Lennon largely stepped away from music in the mid-1970s to focus on family life but returned with Double Fantasy (1980). Tragically, he was shot and killed outside his New York apartment on December 8, 1980.

Lennon remains one of the most influential figures in music history.
