Brief History of AC/DC

Formation and Early Years (1973–1975)
AC/DC was formed in Sydney, Australia, in 1973 by Scottish-born brothers Malcolm Young (rhythm guitar) and Angus Young (lead guitar). Their name, inspired by the abbreviation for "alternating current/direct current," symbolized the band's raw energy and electric performances. Initially featuring vocalist Dave Evans, the group soon replaced him with the charismatic Bon Scott, whose unique voice and persona helped define the band's sound.

The band's debut album, High Voltage (1975), showcased their gritty, blues-influenced rock and marked the beginning of their rise in the Australian music scene.

Rise to Fame (1976–1979)
AC/DC gained international attention with albums like Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (1976) and Let There Be Rock (1977). Their relentless touring and high-energy performances, combined with Angus Young's schoolboy uniform stage persona, set them apart.

In 1979, they released Highway to Hell, their breakthrough album, which became their first to chart in the US.

Tragedy and Resurgence (1980–1983)
In 1980, tragedy struck when Bon Scott died of alcohol poisoning. The band considered disbanding but ultimately decided to continue, recruiting British vocalist Brian Johnson. That same year, they released Back in Black, a tribute to Scott and their most successful album, featuring classics like "Hells Bells," "You Shook Me All Night Long," and the title track.

Continued Success and Challenges (1984–1994)
The band followed up with albums like For Those About to Rock We Salute You (1981) and Flick of the Switch (1983), which maintained their hard rock dominance. Despite personnel changes and fluctuating critical reception, they remained a major concert draw throughout the 1980s and early 1990s.

Legacy and Later Years (1995–Present)
AC/DC continued to release albums and tour into the 21st century, including Black Ice (2008), which debuted at No. 1 in 29 countries. Despite health issues, including Malcolm Young's retirement in 2014 due to dementia, the band persevered. Angus Young remained the creative force, and Malcolm was replaced by their nephew Stevie Young.

In 2020, AC/DC released Power Up, a tribute to Malcolm, featuring the classic lineup of Brian Johnson, Angus and Stevie Young, drummer Phil Rudd, and bassist Cliff Williams.

Legacy
AC/DC is celebrated as one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of all time.
