Michael Jackson (1958–2009) was an American singer, songwriter, and dancer, known as the "King of Pop." Born in Gary, Indiana, he rose to fame as the lead singer of The Jackson 5, a Motown group formed with his brothers.

His solo career took off in the late 1970s with albums like Off the Wall (1979), but it was Thriller (1982) that made him a global superstar. Thriller remains the best-selling album of all time, featuring hits like Billie Jean, Beat It, and Thriller. 

Jackson continued his dominance with albums like Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995). He won numerous Grammy Awards, broke sales records, and influenced generations of artists.
